We have an exciting role on offer within our Financial Planning & Support service as a Senior Accounting Officer.

About Us

By providing accurate timely financial advice, challenging and influencing spending plans, Middlesbrough Council’s Financial Planning and Business Partnering team plays a key role in ensuring that the Council’s resources are utilised to their fullest extent.

We are currently seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated Senior Accounting Officer to join our team.  If you thrive on working in a fast-paced, changing environment, can positively contribute to developing innovative new ways of thinking, can communicate and build successful working relationships with finance and non-finance staff then we’d love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will provide support and advice to two of the operational directorates within the Council, Regeneration and Legal & Governance Services.  As such you will be part of a team that has the responsibility for the overview and provision of advice relating to expenditure budgets and significant income targets to services including:

  • Economic Development, including major capital projects such as the Council’s housing growth programme and other regeneration schemes.
  • The Council’s Strategic Investment Property Portfolio, incorporating the Cleveland Centre, Captain Cook Square and offices including Centre Square and the Boho Zone.
  • Property Services portfolio including building maintenance and capital works.
  • Valuation & Estates functions including commercial lettings and asset sales.
  • Planning Policy, including Building Control & Development Control.
  • Cultural Services, including the towns entertainment venues – Town Hall, Theatre, Dorman and Captain Cook museums.
  • Community Learning.
  • Human Resources, including Payroll and Workforce Development.
  • Strategy, Information & Governance.
  • Legal Services.
  • ICT.
  • Project Management Office and Customer Experience.
  • Democratic Services and Registrars.
  • Coroners Service.

Experience in dealing with grants, including assisting in applications, ensuring compliance with grant conditions and the preparation of quarterly and annual returns would be advantageous although not essential.
