The role
We have an exciting role on offer within our Public Health as a Active Communities and Healthy Places Officer.
Are you passionate about creating healthier communities through physical activity and community sport? Do you want to help shape vibrant, inclusive spaces that support wellbeing across Middlesbrough?
We’re looking for an Active Communities and Healthy Places Officer to join our Public Health team. This exciting role will focus on working collaboratively with local organisations and community groups to develop and sustain opportunities for physical activity and sport, to reduce health inequalities and promote active lifestyles.
As part of our commitment to creating healthy spaces and places,
You will:
Build strong partnerships with community organisations, sports clubs, and local services.
Support partner organisations to develop and deliver sustainable physical activity initiatives that respond to local needs and public health priorities.
Identify and address barriers to participation and gaps in provision, that enable local groups to grow and thrive.
Contribute to funding bids, programme monitoring, and strategic development.
This role is central to our ambition to create healthy spaces and places across Middlesbrough, using a whole-system approach to tackle physical inactivity and persistent health inequalities.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Energy, creativity, and a passion for community wellbeing.
A strong understanding of the role of physical activity and sport in improving health and wellbeing and reducing inequalities.
Experience of partnership working and community engagement.
Experience of working with individuals or community groups of all ages and abilities, with a person-centred approach.
Strong communication and partnership-building skills.
A commitment to reducing inequalities and creating inclusive, active communities.
Please note, this is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2027.
