We have an exciting role on offer within our Children’s Service’s as a Custody Navigator.

South Tees Youth Justice Service are seeking to appoint a Custody Navigator, to work with the Youth Justice Services across the Cleveland Police area. You will have the drive and determination to contribute to the future development of Youth Justice Services, improving performance and ensuring quality in the delivery of work with young people in Police Custody.

This post is funded by the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV) and aims to engage with young people who have been arrested by Police and brought into the Police Custody Suite. The Custody Navigator role will provide touchpoint opportunities, moments to engage with young people involved in serious violent offending and identify those who are ready to make changes in their lives.

The role of the Navigator will be to engage and support people at the point of arrest to build relationships to make positives changes. Navigators provide ongoing contact and support with young people and provide gateways into services to meet needs and assist individuals to realise and work towards achieving their goals and aspirations. This focus of this post will be to provide additional support to young people in Police Custody during weekend periods.

We are looking for suitably experienced individuals who can show the creativity and commitment to make a difference to the lives of young people. You should have experience of working with young people with complex needs and a proven ability to improve outcomes. If this is you, this may be the opportunity you are looking for!

The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues from partner agencies is a key skill for achieving success in this role. An understanding of using restorative approaches to overcoming barriers to engagement is essential for success in this post.
