The role
Middlesbrough Council’s Public Protection Service is passionate about improving the lives and living standards of all residents, protecting the environment, protecting consumer interests, and supporting a strong local economy.
We are expanding our Private Sector Housing service to deliver the changes to private renting introduced by the Renters' Rights Act 2025 and drive forward our work to improve housing standards across the town.
We are seeking to appoint a motivated and knowledgeable Environmental Health Officer to play a key role in improving housing standards and protecting tenants through the effective implementation of the Renters Rights Act and wider housing legislation. The role includes delivering licensing functions, monitoring compliance with housing and landlord laws, conducting housing standards assessments, investigating breaches and offences of housing laws and applying appropriate sanctions for non-compliance.
Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in Environmental Health accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland.
